1、 Working principle

Under lightning conditions, when the downward leader of lightning approaches the ground, any conductive surface will produce an upward leader. In the case of passive lightning rods, only after a long period of charge recombination, will the upward leader propagate. The excitation time of the upstream pilot of the SI early discharge arrester is greatly shortened. Under the high static electric field characteristics before lightning discharge, the SI E early discharge arrester will generate controllable amplitude and frequency pulses at the needle tip, which will cause the lightning rod to generate an upward leader and propagate upward, thereby intercepting the downward leader emitted from the lightning cloud.

2、 Lightning arrester test

The SI early discharge arrester is being tested in the high-voltage laboratory. The test simulates natural lightning conditions and allows for performance comparisons between different lightning protection systems.

Test simulating natural electric field conditions, where a constant electric field (caused by charges between clouds and the ground, simulated by a DC generator in the laboratory) is superimposed with a pulsed electric field (caused by the lower conductor approaching the ground, simulated by a Marx generator with a long front wave). The corona at the tip of the rod is measured by the photomultiplier tube method to determine the triggering time of simple passive lightning rods (SR) and SI early discharge lightning arresters.

In this way, the average values of simple passive lightning rods (SR) and PDC early discharge lightning arresters can be determined. The time difference is defined as T (SR) minus T (SI) to obtain the advance time Δ T of the SI early discharge arrester.
